You can’t guarantee any player will perform though.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 6:32 am We could have just loaned someone, if your options are loan someone for a year or buy someone not even remotely suited to the league for £25m there's a very obvious choice.
Any form of scouting should have shown that 1 in 3 form wasn't transferable to the premier league, not was the player suited to the way we played.
It's an abhorrent waste of money for a club without any.
I don't buy it was Beto or nobody, that's not how football works.
Beto has a good record, is strong and quick so it’s easy to see why we thought he was worth taking the risk on.
Sounds like gykorees and the lad at dortmund were our main targets but we didn’t have the resources.
He hasn’t really been that bad. He’s scored a decent amount of goals for the minutes he’s played, put in some really good performances, but can’t seem to put it all together for a manager to trust making him the main man.
If we decide we don’t want him here in the summer then we’d still get a decent fee for him, or if we send him on loan then he has the ability to score goals in another league to get better money for him further down the road.
In terms of the bad transfers we’ve made over the years, beto is far from the worst.
