So we need maybe a dozen players just to replace the ones we're losing at the end of the season, we're not signing a whole bunch of unearthed gem big potential U20s for low fees are we. We've managed one in over a decade. If we are, name names.

There are going to be players that slightly underwhelm us, and then we'll be further underwhelmed when we sign fewer than we'd hoped. We might get a good one or two. Soucek wouldn't be the pinnacle signing either, but he'd improve us now. We need goals, football brains and leadership.

Surely if we need a dozen players (that’s a massive exaggeration) then spending £20m on soucek is a poor decision?

These 13 are leaving in a month or two, so we either need to resign some of them and/or we're still down quite a few. All are starters/bench except Begovic.

Orel Mangala
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Jesper Lindstrøm
Jack Harrison
Carlos Alcaraz
Armando Broja
Abdoulaye Doucouré
Michael Keane
Idrissa Gueye
João Virgínia
Ashley Young
Séamus Coleman
Asmir Begovic

I haven't seen 20m quoted anywhere either. Given the issues at the Hammers who knows what Potter might want his squad to look like next season.

Anyway, as I've said already, I'm not hugely in favour of the move but I could see it happening.

Taking Soucek, but I'd be dreaming of Kudus.

We need a starter or a backup in every position.

Hope that's showing Gana as staying?

So how much do we have to spend, and who are we spending it on? We're not waiting for the papers to tell us are we?

The spine is the most important bit

We are set at keeper and centre back (if Jarrod stays)

Priority is therefore centre midfield and a starting striker. Get them right first, build from there

Ideally he stays, if not we need a starter calibre signing to replace him.

I noticed lots of talk about this on Twitter yesterday, it certainly seems possible and you could imagine Moyes would like what he brings in terms of work rate and physicality at least.

Be a bit embarrassing for him that as the only way that happens is if no club better than us are willing to take him on.

Mangala, Lindstrøm, Harrison, Alcaraz and Broja are all loans and will just be replaced by similar (or, hopefully, better loans).

Gueye is hopefully going to re-sign. Keepers don't count and I'd expect one or both of Virginia or Begovic to re-sign/be replaced for actual peanuts.

So what. 2 aged right backs a centre half that's already been replaced (Keane for O'Brien), DCL and Doucoure?

Most people are saying a RB, a CM and a Striker. Throw in a 4th (creative) signing and get a new roll of the dice with the loans and we're sound for 10th-12th next year when we will be in a much better position financially.

Spunking money on journeymen puts everything in jeopardy and shows the club and fans have learned exactly nothing from the Moshiri years

If he was fit he'd be a perfect Moyes striker.

Run channels, contest high balls, be able to take it into feet and retain it, link up with midfielders who want to get shots off.

I'm ready for him to move on but if you designed a Moyes striker in a lab it wouldn't look too different to DCL.
