Never liked Dewsbury Hall, simply because his name reminds me of a country hotel.
I always think he sounds like a Harry Hill character

In 2005 Messi got an 8 year contract at Barca and Fabregas got one at Arsenal
In 2009 both Raul and Casillas signed lifetime ones
Pardew (a manager, granted) signed an 8 year extension in 2012
Iniesta was offered a lifetime one in 2017
That's a pretty regular cadence of over 5-year contracts to suggest you may be Mandela-effecting here?
National rules dictate most contract details (due to employment laws), not UEFA
honestly maybe it was just the fa and not uefa
i am 100% certain
none of those played in the uk and pardew is a manager so not a player
i remember it well as it was changed in football manager aswell at the same time
i know its only a game but i can also remeber it being in all the papers back in the day
its not the mandela effect

Fabregas signed that contract at Arsenal in 05. But that may have been before the event you're thinking about

yer that is probably before what am talking about
i think it was possibly sometime between fabregas so 2006 and 2012 am certain it was during moyes first stint as manager and that chelsea was the main ones doing it but there was a few other clubs also doing it to a lesser extent
just googled that and it was 2006 for fabregas so just revised my dates

googles ai says
In 2005, the Football Association (FA) limited the length of a player's contract depending on the player's age.
Players under 18: Could not sign a contract longer than three years
Players 18 and over: Could sign a contract up to five years
from thefa.com there is a 16 page document that says
The minimum length of a contract shall be from its effective date until the end of the season, while the maximum length of a contract shall be five years.
this is from 2008
its a pdf file

I was under the impression that the contract length thing was more about amortising players. I thought it was designed to.close the loophole that Chelsea were exploiting offering players 8 and 10 year contracts, meaning the they could sign a player on a 10 year deal and spread the cost over the entire contract. The idea was to maximise the amortisation period to 5 years.

There was a transfer rule that transfer payments had to be paid within the time frame of the contract with it being a max of 5 years as that was the maximum contract length, that came in about the same time but ffp was not a thing so amortisation wasnt a thing then
It is confusing like as its the same thing with the same club just 19 years apart

I genuinely think adding a striker is okay, but get the team to the point where we are missing 3-4 chances a game rather than 1.
A good set up makes a striker look better. A bad set up makes a striker look worse. Adding a good striker to a bad set up is like adding a beautiful rosewood steering wheel to a shitcan car.
We would need a striker capable of creating their own goals if that’s all we sign. We’d need to sign someone capable of scoring Maradona-style goals (both the mazy run AND punching our wayward, overhit crosses into the net) and we need to pick a player like that up on an Adam Lallana-style budget.
