Listen the truth is, he's one of the best in the league at leading a line, he's also one of the worst in Europe at finishing a free dinner.
He's miles better than Beto and Barry, as evidenced hy the fact that neither of them can currently get more than a half of football at a time due to the manager being so disgusted by their performance that he pulls them off for the other one, but it was the right time to move on for everyone I think.
My hope is, Barry comes good. But he does have to come good because he's currently not being good. I will be disappointed if we buy some old journeyman or expensive big club cast off, because even if that goes well it takes us backwards.
If you are going to invest in youth you need bollocks. Have we got bollocks?

Dcl played for this team...... and at the end was sat on the bench. Bit weird to bow be confident he walks into this team

Because he was injured and during that time Beto remembered how to play football for a period.
Unfortunately since DCL left Beto has forgotten about how to play football again.
It's no coincidence DCL remained on the bench after coming back from injury as he wasn't needed and also he was leaving so was never going to play even if Beto hadn't been looking like a semi decent player at that point in time.
Anyway no one's saying we should have kept DCL, just that both Barry and Beto have been so bad that if he were still here there's little doubt who'd be the starting striker.

I agree. But my worry is how we handle that development. He should be getting more and more minutes at the end imo, building him up. Being hooked at half time does not seem conducive to building confidence or experience. Give him tired, stretched defenders to start with and grow him into it.
Also the system we have him playing in does not suit him at all. Receiving chest-high pelters in the centre circle with his back to goal, 40 yards from any teammate and surrounded by grocks is no way to play him.

But but but he’s 6’5!

Have we all forgotten just how atrocious DCL's finishing was? The man misses 9 out of 10 1v1s vs the keeper.
DCL? No thanks.
He’s a crap finisher but he can keep hold of it, bring others into play etc. I’m sure Grealish, N’diaye and KDH would rather play with DCL right now, have more chance of scoring themselves, than give it to Beto and not get it back.

We offered him a new contract, no? he turned it down. If he accepted and we had Beto playing as he is now, 100% DCL starts. It’s obvious, if we want the ball to stick.

Dom didnt wanna sign, and it would have been irresponsible of us to offer massive contract for someone with his injury record and finishing ability.

I assumed he walks into this team was more a long term claim rather than he'd get a game because beto is completely out of form
Regardless though hes been crap for years. Hes no great loss especially on the ridiculous money he wanted

True. He is only still in the discussion because the £50m+ we spent on replacing him has resulted in him still being better than the grossly overpaid for options we now have.

Apparently he's shut it down saying it wasn't him who was reporting it.
