Footy is so shit these days.

He’s a boss player, full of character but we’re going to lose him to the Saudis.

In fairness to the lad, if you'd spent a couple of years in Aston, you'd want to go to Saudi Arabia. Probably wouldn't even ask for any wages.

Villa fans obviously up in arms which is always nice to see. I'm putting it down to wanting better support and atmosphere at home games myself :-)

In all seriousness though, players like him and Ruben Neves going at an age in or before their prime need to have a proper look at themselves. Pathetic.

Villa need the sale though don't they apparently.

Close to breaching again, they can't turn that down.

The transformative wealth is something that has to be taken into consideration though. These lads aren’t only making enough money for themselves for the rest of their days, but likely their children’s children. And at the end of the day, you’re only ever a split second away from a career ending injury.

I don’t like it but o can’t blame the players. Hate the game, as the saying goes.

I think a lot of people underestimate how much money 80k a week (a conservative estimate) actually is.

If you're on that, you already earn more in a year than the average person in a lifetime. If you sign a 5 year contract on that not particularly high salary, your entire family is set for life.

Gen Z don't seem to give a shit about anything other than getting the bag.

If you've not got 4 side hustles tripling your base salary then you're not even trying. Or something.

@biziclop

Has put the point perfectly. If they were playing in league two and got the offer to go to Saudi i would have some understanding, if not entirely sympathy but as a PL professional, moving to an utterly shit league purely for money is greed, pure and simple for me. Hope Duran pulls out though if it means Villa breach FFP mind.

He's a young man. Maybe he thinks spend three years getting set for life then still have the bulk of his career ahead of him.

Maybe but there is no way that spending three years from age 21/22 to 24/25 in a glorified pub league helps you develop the way that playing in the PL, La Liga, Bundesliga would.

Just as easily may mean he isn't jaded by 26.

Everyone's different and most probably wouldn't go to Saudi early in their career but his ability gives him the choice.

Is playing in a big league really all that?? Playing for Madrid or barca or The Shite or city maybe but sat on the bench at villa? Instead of earning half a million a week in a pub league??

Remember the guy from Sunderland who fucked off to the middle east. Became 1 of the highest paid players in the world rather than having yearly relegation battles. Got endless shit about his ambition. Doubt his dream was to finish 5th bottom with Sunderland

Arsenal have had a £60m bid rejected for Watkins... Not sure who Villa will end up selling here.

Feel like Arsenal never actually sell players for money and just continually splurge 10s of millions on players, goes to show how much breathing room PSR gives you when you're one of the few who'd already climbed the ladder before it was pulled.
