Mad the career Vic had, he probably stole a bit of a living off us as he was never really a PL level striker but he's still only 36 and hasn't played in over 7 years. Probably could have had a really good Championship, low PL career but ended up going to China and he's career kind of ended after that.

James Vaughan, because I'd want to see what he would've been able to do had he had a prime.

Didn't Kevin Nolan break his knee at Newcastle? I'm pretty sure he carried on for the rest of the half and then was gone for the season. Wouldn't be surprised if that injury took its toll long-term.

Anichebe was part of the Sunderland side that got relegated under Moyes.

Crazy to think that Lescott and Pienaar were part of that side too as well as Rodwell, Gibson and Oviedo

I think it was some kind of other damage, ligaments, cartilage, etc. Average player probably would’ve had their leg broken, Vic’s legs were so huge he took the damage elsewhere. Tough recovery either way but I think a clean break is actually simpler than whatever happened, especially since he suffered a bunch of complications trying to return.

Definitely lost some of his pace but he was still strong and good with his back to goal post-injury. Just didn’t suit Martinez at all and was kind of one-dimensional after losing a step or two since he was never a great finisher.

We could’ve essentially had a straight swap for Yakubu’s physicality and Andy Johnson’s pace running in behind the defense with Vic and James Vaughan coming through the academy but injuries robbed us of that.

He was fucking terrible.

I remember Tony Pulis playing him centre mid once for West Brom.

Got Paddy McNair and Januzaj off United too.

Sunderland were that empty after years of throwing cash after new players for terrible managers.

I’m thankful we never ended up needing a manager to call a bunch of old, familiar faces just to have a squad. A glimpse of what life could’ve been like if we had gone further down the Benitez rabbit hole. Lampard was a terrible coach but bringing in Thelwell to manage the rest of footballing affairs probably saved us that fate.

Vic definitely wasn’t terrible and certainly didn’t steal a living ffs.

A dude who averaged 3 goals and 5 assists a season as a winger is not a brilliant, top three player. He was a very good squad player and helped get the best out of Baines. But nowhere near top five in my book.

Some of my very best memories of Everton is sat in Goodison watching him.

Every time he got the ball the crowd stood up. He was absolutely easy top 5.

A joy to watch, first time I've watched footy and thought a player was gliding across the pitch. Unreal.

God is great.

You think how many pre assists he had with Baines, I think I’d have him in my top 5 too.
