He's just ok, nothing more nothing less, and cost us I think around £8m?
I don't understand why there are strong opinions either way tbh.
Yeah exactly, he is ok. Pretty shite at times / frustrating and a coward. Other times he is the ok/good.
My strong opinion is just down to being a bitter Evertonian and i can not look at him without hearing him say how YNWA gave him goosebumps and he was in a daze for the first 20 mins of the game (i'm paraphrasing) I just will never warm to the kopite prick after that. Soz.

Coward because he picks the safe option all the time sideways and backwards some of our fans love him because he works hard and also throws himself into tackles I want more footballing ability from my midfielders but some want graft

We'll get a decent Gareth Barry replacement one day

I would. A coward with the ball. We need someone to show bravery and try the riskier forward pass from time to time. Sure, some will be intercepted, but you have to keep trying. One of the frustrating things is that Garner has shown that he has it in his locker, but very rarely attempts it because he doesn’t want to give possession away.
So instead he passes sideways or backwards while the opposition reorganise themselves and the move breaks down because we can’t unpick a defence.

He is a coward with the ball, and the amount of time he shits out of a tackle is mad.

He’s our best sitting midfielder, even if he does have faults.
He’s sadly probably also our best RB.
He’s also very rarely injured and can do ninety minutes week in week out - very good buy for what he cost.
All the issues people have with Garner are because they want him to be something that he isn’t

Might just be me but I don't agree with that, especially the shitting out of tackles. I'm not saying I'm entirely happy with all of his play, he can be a bit safe half the time but when you've got a statue up front Glen Hoddle would be

One of the weirdest players we've had in terms of the fans views of him.
Not so much on here but more twitter etc I think people project the sort of midfielder they wish he was onto him. You see comparisons to Peter Reid, he's our best player, should be playing for England and all that absolutely baffles me.
He's average at best and both the stats and eye test confirm it.
That's just twitter though, it's full of fringe, controversial opinions that are magnified by the algorithm dragging other idiots like a tornado of shit, making it seem like more people share that opinion than really do.
He is average overall, but good at a few things that our other options are bad at. Fortunately for us, the things he's good at make him 'average' in a number of different positions and against most opposition types. So he's good to have in the squad but it also highlights that our recruitment has failed.
I'm more forgiving than most I'd say, and I think he's done well this season and makes others around him more effective, but we desperately need someone who can do everything he does well AND play a forward pass.

The stats say he is the 3rd best player at the club this season behind JG and IN but dont let the stats get in the way of all the bullshit

How does that even work? What stats say hes better than pickford or worse than grealish? Surely they are completely different profile of stats

I'm guessing overall performance ratings?
