Football has moved on since Moyes could pick up a relatively unknown on the cheap, scouting has changed, data analytics picks up players earlier and from further afield
Not sure why people are hanging onto this dream he’ll pluck some gems out of his arse, he paid £7m to loan Kalvin Phillips

The whole Baines and Fellaini thing. You have to remember that at that point, he was no longer Everton's manager, he was just doing his job. He knew the financial position at Everton and put in a cheeky bid for a couple of players that he knew would improve his new club. Maybe he was a little naughty going public with it and accusing is of holding them back, but ultimately, he was just doing the job he was being paid to do. I don't hold any grudges over that.
I also don't hold any grudges over him going to Utd in the first place. At the time, that was the biggest job in English football. The opportunity to rebuild a dynasty that had been built by Sir Alex. Having a transfer budget that he couldn't ever have dreamed of whilst at Everton. Going to a club that could afford to bring in almost any player that they wanted after 11 years of operating on a shoestring at Everton. Who would turn that down. Also, it was not like he just fucked off, he did announce it before he went, giving the club ample opportunity to scout out a replacement. The fact that Bill was mesmerised by Martinez was not down to Moyes. For a little while, we were all taken in by him too. We were loving Lukaku's goals and the sexy tiki taka. We didn't give it a second thought that it was built on foundations of sand and RM didn't have a fucking clue how to defend. It was fine whilst he still had the defence that Moyes had built, but it was never going to be sustainable in the long term, and Mark my words, one more season and RM would have took us into the Championship.
However you feel about him doesn't really matter right now anyway. He is the man that the club have chosen to keep us in the PL and lead us into our beautiful new home. Let's get behind the man, make Goodison an absolute fucking cauldron for whoever comes and do our part in getting Everton over the line.
I am not agreeing with that narrative of Roberto Martinez. At least he was closer to success than make us relegate. As for Moyes I totally agree with you. No reason to criticise him for doing his job at Manchester United. I actually would like to thank him for what he did to Manchester United.

Martinez was a god awful manager. Genuinely good squad going backwards.

He inherited a very defence, so initially had the foundations upon which he could play nice, attacking football. It was when he had to concentrate on bringing in defenders that we started to regress rapidly. Come on mate you really think we were going to be successful with Antolin fucking Alcaraz at centre half????
Not practicing set pieces was another massive hole in Martinez's management. There's always a chance of nicking a goal from a set pieces or conversely conceding a goal. Not practicing them was fucking criminal. Defending set pieces, your defenders need to know exactly what their role is, what area they are taking responsibility for. Yes, they are professional footballers, but they need to practice to ensure that they are perfectly in sync. Same goes for taking set pieces. Your attacking players need to know where the ball is likely to go from free kicks/corners etc. Will it be an inswinget/outshines? Will it be going near post/far post? Where should they be attacking for maximum impact? RM felt they were an irrelevance??????

Remember him doing an interview with carragher when the wheels were coming off and he said top teams just kept the ball so didn't have to worry much about defence. Like that was our tactic despite top teams actually being able to defend and us not having the quality to just dominate the ball
He was an absolute bullshit merchant. From Barry being 1 of England's greatest ever players, to us signing the greatest ever free transfer (his name escapes me from utd) mainly though about things that just sounded like good ideas but he had no way of implementing them if there was ever a chance of them working anyway. Everyone was gonna live at the club before match days. Baines was gonna play midfield like lahm. He just chatted absolute shite with zero substance

Said it some thread on here recently but I think Martinez presented himself as a football philosopher when really, his sides are lacking in identity and have no sturdy principles to fall back on when things get tough.
It’s easy to pass yourself off as this when you add four very good players (Barkley, Barry, Lukaku, Deulofeu) and let the shackles off a well-drilled Moyes team, less so when you have to actually replenish the identity yourself.
His real skill was watching a fuck ton of opposition matches, finding little flaws, and hatching one-off plans to exploit them. It sounds great, and is actually quite nice in knockout competitions, until you remember that teams frequently wouldn’t try anything against us - they’d just wait for us to take a dumb risk in the name of possession with no firm plan/principles and pounce.
He could be a good coach if he was honest about what his actual strengths are. I think the fact that he almost was one despite his numerous delusions is actually sort of impressive in a way.

Think martinez knows he's a bluffer. Never returned to club football. Was genuinely looking forward to watching him ruin a club and what was left of his reputation
Honestly of all our God awful managers he was my least favorite (until benitez) found him utterly unlikeable. He'd shite in our mouths and tell us it was chocolate

It was absolutely criminal that he didn't win anything with the golden generation of Belgian football.

The defense bit is extra funny when you think about how obsessed Pep has become with defensive structure.
Tucking full backs inside, playing 4 CBs, etc.

The main (albeit silly) thing for me is - I feel good about him managing the last match at Goodison, and the first at BMD. He gave an awful lot to Everton Football Club, and I am certain he'll give it his level best the next few years.

I'll never forget being at that Wigan pumping by Martinez at Goodison.
Good times.

We talk about his transfer success, but it wasn’t just about the price and the ability of the player. Very early on in this interview he mentions the character of the players we used to have. That’s a big thing we need more of in the club, especially in a relegation fight.

Are players like that even a thing anymore?
Who's the next Seamus Coleman? Character wise?

Even Moyes says there it's not the same in terms of last time he was here, he isn't building a team slowly now and needs results. He's a good interview but we will see exactly what he does
