Get your point but I can't pretend to be worried about losing James Garner*

Gives more opportunity for Harrison Armstrong when he returns to the fold.

Losing Garner wouldn't be ideal but he's far from irreplaceable imo.

*And I think he's done well this season.

Irreplaceable from a talent perspective? Definitely not, but he's a solid squad player and I'd image we want to save every penny to bring in better players, rather than another backup to replace him if he goes.

It's like the left back situation for me, we need a big upgrade on myko, but we probably can't afford to let him go even when the upgrade comes in.

Issue with not offering a new deal is how many positions he plays. If we invest in better players at right back and through the middle fair enough

Well worth keeping him as a squad player, would prefer more quality wherever he happens to be starting.

We have kind of slipped into this for the past few years though with the various restrictions we have had, keeping players we would rather an upgrade on and we just kind of limp along. We have now finally come out the other side so we maybe need to change the mentality. If he wants to stay then great but if he is pushing for big money then we back ourselves to be a bit cuter in the market to replace him.

Needs a new contract either way, just to protect our investment, particularly if he does somehow make the England squad.

Moyes is likely to want to “build the team around him”, which does make me shudder a little.

Moyes kept calling him Gardner in the post-match. I had to Google him to check which was right after that! 😂

It doesn’t beat Ancellotti’s “Who?”, but it still made me chuckle!

I dont think he's like doucs, who was in decline and on mega money, but you're right, it's a tough balance and recently we havent always got it right.

It'll come down to what he's asking for and if that makes sense money wise.
