I think its good she spoke up and gives a bit of human context to deadline day and the general commoditization of players.
I was watching Toffee TV for a bit but found the carnival atmosphere, supported by the live chat a bit much. Yes they get paid a lot and people are entitled to express their opinions on players, but we all need to remember that money doesn't buy self esteem or a happy homelife. Everyone deserves a modicom of respect and generally we should dial it down a bit when it comes to levelling personal abuse.

Also isn't it common knowledge about his partner? I know I mentioned it most weeks last season. I think she had cancer treatment or something similar
I spoke about it often as a way of understanding why he looked so ill himself and so off his game.
Tbh i am more angry with Moyes picking him when it is clear he is not in the right headspace and hasn't been for a long time.
Maybe the fact he had to hold it together whilst his partner was ill, and now she's well again, he has broken a little.
He needs protection if that's the case, not being in the team and putting in disgraceful performances, getting dogs abuse and hooked at half time.
I'm gutted he is still here because I don't want him in the team. But I feel for him alot. And hope he gets some support
Very much this.
I thought most people would be aware of his partner’s health issues, it was a talking point at the time.
I can’t understand why he’s been selected recently if we know (and surely we do?) he has mental problems. He was awful against Leeds. In this case it seems the club are at fault, selecting him and exposing him to that level of vitriol and, from some in the stadium, pure hatred. That’s poor by Moyes.
I had hoped this deal would go through as it was good for us in terms of the value and I thought excellent for the player because he looks like he needs a fresh challenge. Fuck Palace.

Don’t know how people are blaming moyes or the club here.
Nobody knows exactly what’s going on with him.
He could have been perfectly fine to play.
There’s a lot of assumptions going on.

Nobody was arsed about his mental health last night when all the memes and AI slop was going around

I could be wrong but I thought I saw that he'd split up with his previous partner a while back. Very possibly wrong tbf.
I do feel for him, because he's obviously been through tough times and then last night must have been pretty horrendous for him. Footballers though are judged on what they do on the pitch, and he's been largely terrible - add in the apparent lack of effort on top of it all and it's hardly surprising he's been taking shit for it.
If he needs help then I hope the club are making sure he gets it. If he doesn't play for us again then I wish him well, if he ends up coming back in and playing then I hope he can turn it round at least to some degree.

Plenty people have commented throughout the season that he hasn't seemed right, his partner's post has confirmed that. It's one thing to be delighted to be getting £20m for a player who's been poor all season, I don't think that's reason for people to dismiss that he's clearly had some issues going on. Seen a few comments around today where we're back in the dark ages where people earning good money have "50,000 reasons a week not to have mental health issues" etc, it's such a blinkered, ignorant attitude to have these days.

True, I did put ’if we know’, but could have put the if/then argument a bit stronger. However, if you look at his previous seasons efforts compared to this and especially his performance against Leeds, then his post, his partner’s post and even the club’s, you’d have to think something’s not right.

Disagree, not something I’m into at all. I might say someone’s playing crap or whatever but actively dislike some of the stuff that gets posted (while respecting it’s someone’s right to post what they like within the rules)
As you said above nobody really knows what’s really been going on but I do believe it’s on the club to not select a player if they’re struggling for whatever reason - if a player is selected he’s going to play unless he refuses to do so, which would be unprofessional.

Just because people didn't comment doesn't mean they weren't arsed by it. I thought they were absolutely shocking but I wasn't arsed about getting in to it with people.
I think it's very easy for people to forget about the person behind the footballer so hopefully this at least gives people pause for thought in future.

Most stuff I saw were joy at getting 20 million for him and not having to watch him play for us which I'm sure is ok.
I do blame Moyes for playing him because not once in the recent months have his performances warranted multiple starts and I'm unsure why he has been starting games.
It's pretty obvious he isn't good enough right now for some reason or another

This. It’s perfectly ok to want a better player in your football team, whatever the reason. No one had a dig at his mental health that I saw - only how crap he’s been for us lately.
Wish him nothing but the best, but also believe in Nothing But The Best Is Good Enough for us, too.

It does give pause for thought about things like Peter Odemwinge turning up at QPR in his car at transfer day - he's long been mocked for it, but the following months at West Brom were clearly very awkward for him.

Find the reaction to it totally insincere tbh.

Think that's fair generally although not necessarily of the forum which has it's fair share of balance with the odd bit of hyperbole.
Have seen comments talking like he's the worst player to ever play for us and stuff which is absolute nonsense, think most people just think very short term and live reactionally. Don't think there's any intent to do it but it's the joys of social media.
