It's very black and white on here, like it's okay for people to have moaned about him but also have sympathy for him and his partner, seems some people are saying that's not the case.

It's quite interesting though, this place has frequently had threads regarding mental health and posters opening up about it and how's affected them, their family and their work etc so it's quite surprising to see the comments basically dimissing McNeil's issue, maybe they're the ones that need to examine themselves? Having said that, I'm sure it would be different if it was a more popular player.
No, not at all! Wouldn’t even say he’s had that bad of a time from our fans compared to some players over the years.

Snarky comments, chuckling at memes, joining in with the general revelling - I mean to be honest it’s all part and parcel of the game these days imo, not to say it isn’t a bit wrong but it is part and parcel.

Not sure if I’ve seen many dismissing his issue though…are you saying that’s what I’m doing? I’m just saying I can actually understand the sudden onset of morality here and there.

Probably more the memes and the 'never been so happy about a transfer before' kind of jibes rather than people just having a moan about his general contribution this year.

Think most would agree £20m was a great deal for us, but also felt the tone of some posts were more personal towards him.

No one need throw themselves under a bus on here, nsno self regulates well.

It was a welcome insight into the deadline day at a human level for a footballer's family. Her comments should be welcomed, certainly not dismissed by Talk Sport. I'd like to think someone spells it out to Jordan amd he aplogises.. but thats not going to happen is it.

Personally, its just a good opportunity to recalibrate a bit and remember these are real people.

I’am talking about the fanbase as a whole.

The reaction to him at the Leeds match, myself included, and the comments about him in recent weeks, on here and on social media as a whole, again, myself included.

Not dismissing any mental health concerns in anyway, but what happened to him last night was just the nature of the beast unfortunately, and there’s nothing to suggest his drop in performances are due to mental health struggles and I’m sure the manager and the club are well aware on how to act of a player is struggling.

It’s not like he’s been flogged. We hardly saw him for months so maybe that was a bit of protection at play?

Suppose my point is, if you’re taking part in the comments about him, the reaction towards him at the match, can you then say “think about his mental health”?

I think it’s a fair question to ask.

It feels like there's a tone that if you've slagged him off this season, posted a meme or were celebrating the sale then don't take the moral high ground when his partner posts that he's struggled with his mental health, not those exact words but that's the tone coming across. I just find it a little surprising and disappointing that digs are being thrown around at people just for showing a bit of sympathy and seperating the player on the pitch from the person off it and being made out that it's some kind of false morality and it's guilt for moaning about him in the past.

We’ve all contributed, posted snarky stuff, chuckled at the jokes about getting shut of him or others in similar situations. Seeing the human side of it does have an impact understandably and it’s easier to tut at others than examine yourself honestly.
Definitely. I have posted on here about wanting to see him go or being disappointed yesterday that the reported £20 mill move to Palace collapsed. So fair enough, caught out in that respect but do feel for him and his partner in the tough road they have been through. Think it is possible to have the view that he hasn’t delivered for Everton or been anywhere near a success at the club but also feel for him personally. Least, that’s what I think any way. Not sure we can blame Moyes though, or anyone really... Dwight playing might well have been an approach to improve things for him, he might have been doing well in training. We don't know the thinking, and things don't always work out especially with so many variables.

It might have been to get him in the shop window for a new start elsewhere, especially if Moyes wasn't going to play him much in the future, and Dwight wanted the move.

None of us really know, and I'm not sure it matters or blame needs be attributed anywhere.
That's fair, and I definitely hadn't considered the shop window side of things.
