No loyalty in football and all that but whilst I generally take the "contracts work both ways" stance when it comes to players running down their contracts, I do think DCL deserves a bit of criticism for his actions here. He spent the vast majority of two seasons injured which meant it would have been insane by the club to give him a contract extension and he definitely wouldn't have earned near the same money elsewhere at that point. He proved his fitness last season and now has one year left on his contract meaning he's basically got all the leverage.
I feel like he's been here long enough that he owed us a 1-year extension considering he spent two years collecting a significant wage on the physio table.
On the flip side, the injury has accelerated his decline so he has a right to fetch the best deal he can get.
I don’t think he owes the club anything.
Nor do I believe the clubs owes him anything.
I’m not sure he can do much better than here though. If any of the bigger clubs pick him up on a free it will just be because he’s a cheap body they don’t need to spend money on.
Think he’s entitled to shop around though. As long as he gives his all on the pitch for us in his last year I won’t hold a grudge.

I would love it if he stayed granted he didn't score much last season but he 100% has it in him to score plenty of goals he should have had about 20 last year just his aim was always just slightly off or the ball just a few inches to far on the stretch, he is quick strong and and jumps like cahil on stilts. defenders must hate playing against him
He cost us almost nothing and I don't think he feels the love of our fans so I don't blame him for looking for somthing different and a new challenge
To boot I don't blame any player jumping ship as we are a basket case club with no end in sight that we are due to change
I'd jump ship if it was me and I love this club

It will be his last big contract (unless he’s off to the Middle East). he has every right to take care of himself first, and then everything else after.

I can't see where he'd go tbh. There's nobody really desperate for a striker and at £35m+ then nobody is going to sign someone with his record for that with 1 year on his contract. If we lowered it to £20m then I could possibly see Arsenal taking a punt but otherwise clubs like Newcastle and Man United will just bide their time until the summer if they want him.

Maybe Brentford might take him with toney gone he would do well in the chelsea side Jackson is very hit/miss

I'd sell him for 20m rather than get nothing in 9 months. With his injury record and awful finishing im not sure he'd be that big a loss

I agree. I've loved him in the past and I still rate him but I'm a bit fed up with DCL now. Having said that, god knows what we'd bring in considering Beto and Maupay.

We can't afford to give up 20m especially given dcl limited success and availability these last 2 or 3 years. I'm a bit amazed anyone would pay 20m for him and pay him 5m a year on a long term contract. He's a massive risk

No faith in getting a good enough replacement by the end of this window. Would rather run his contract out and spend the next year looking for a replacement.

20m could be 3 x 20m players in, its crazy not to move him on and reinvest if he isnt going to sign. His departure could save our season, providing we have thing lined up

They could, if they allow us to play 12 instead of 11.
