It was a deal worth up to €15m including add ons. Spoke to someone at the club last year and they said we’d barely paid £2m, so far. Barely kicked a ball for us, so hadn’t triggered add ons.

He wasn’t a wonder kid we wrestled off of Sporting. He’d been in their first team, looked miles off it, and we got him for buttons. Was never anywhere near €12m or €15m. Might’ve been if he’d been successful here and played/scored loads. Sporting will have had a decent sell on, but still a good deal for the club.

Nah I am comfortable with it. You dont own the player you just paid for 4 years of his service for x amount per year. You use 2 up of those years, thats gone, you then sell on the final 2 years for more than you paid to secure them.

So you have made a profit on what those last 2 years cost you to purchase.

Its like buying 100 gallons of petrol, for a 100 quid, using 75 gallons, then selling the remaining 25 gallons for 50 quid. That's not a loss is it, because you have been using the commoditiy and exhausted 75% of it. You make a profit on the remainder.

Its just semantics anyway. It might not be "profit", but its not a loss.

Good job we didn’t waste a penny on Sigurdsson then, what a financially prudent signing he was, broke even on that deal!

Low cost risk. In principal not arsed about losing a couple of mill buying a teenage prospect. It’s the development environment that has sunk that couple of mill - a better environment we would have broke even or made a small profit after him improving during his time here.

It’s a low cost risk but ultimately an expensive lesson that if you buy teenage talent you need to put in the work to make a profit, you can’t just let him rot on the bench giving him 8 minutes here and there.

Definitely has something about him but doubt that something was going to ever be out level, especially after injuries robbed him of some development time.

Great move for him and probably a really good signing for Rangers. Providing he stays fit I think he'll develop there and be a good player for them.

A decent sell on % and a buy back clause would be a good deal!

Not really fussed for a buyback. Not sure what he could do in Scotland that would make us confident it would transfer back to the premier league.

Its not a question of profit and loss though, we dont buy players purely to sell them on as traders, we use them to play for us. PSR is a question of expenditure against club turnover, not player purchases versus sales. So if we made £50m during those 4 years and we spent it all on Sigurdson then thats ok PSR wise as long as we dont buy any other players that our revenue wont allow. Of course that wasnt the case and we got shafted for it.

So as I was saying, "profit" or "loss" is semantics really, my point was 8m for the remaining 2 years of his contract was a good deal, given the value of those 2 years.
