Getting increasingly hard to have an opinion on here.
It’s not that hard to see why people who have a few doubts over this appointment and the process behind it.
Doesn’t strike me as us doing things properly. Just like we like the manager last summer get rid of the set piece analyst and the goalkeeping coach.
These thing should be questioned .
Everyone just jumps to conclusions all the time though. I think it'd make more sense to just let him get on with the job and if we see an improvement then great and if not then ask questions.
I don't know how many specialised set piece coaches there are in the world but I would imagine it's a very very small number and so you don't necessarily have the option to recruit one in the way you would a new manager or player.
We need someone, Moyes trusts him... He's not going to give it someone incapable as that hardly does him any favours. It may well just be a case of Moyes will draw up the set pieces and Adam implements them. We don't really have any idea at this moment.

DOF just not got an opinion on any of this stuff no, hasn't got a set piece coach list, or a replacement set piece analyst, or a goal keeping coach or anything, just letting the manager pick all these dudes?
Same old same old.

I don't think you employ Moyes and not let him do these things, I think that's pretty much the only way he'll agree to join.
More a case of the overall issue of being in a situation where we have to employ the likes of Dyche and then Moyes instead of a young progressive coach who just wants to deal with the footballing side.

Don't employ him then.
Same old, same old.

I think it's fair to question it and wonder if it's a bit insular. Question everything really.
I also think it's fair to say, it's the most crucial few months for us in decades, we've just asked a manager to come in and do a ''safe pair of hands'' type job in the middle of the January window, and you need to give him what he feels he needs in the short term. After that you can look at longterm planning and full resets in the summer once you can breathe again.

No it's not, people are just giving differing views to it, it's fairly sensible debate on both sides,
For me it just seems a fairly trivial thing to be getting wound up about, the justification seems to be that it's Charlie Adam, a Liverpool connection and he kipped at Moyes family when he was at Rangers, in realty no one really knows what his abilities are but Moyes will no better than us. If you start drilling through every PL manager's coaching staff they're probably full of mates or people they've built good relationships with and probably share an agent with as well. Nothing's black and white any more though and people want to distrust anything or see an agenda and here we are less than a week into the job and people are accusing Moyes of looking after his mates.
Can't wait for the fume when Charlie Adam's first set piece routing doesn't beat the first man.

Who's getting wound up?
It's always the other side to your opinion who are wound up isn't it. Funny that. Your opinion is calm and reasonable but the other lot, that lot are v emotional.
In general I mean not specifically you

It really isn’t though.
We don’t know anything really, but you can’t deny this doesn’t smack of moyes getting his mate in, or at least someone he’s familiar with.
Other clubs seem to go through a proper process with this type of stuff.
He could be good at the job so it won’t matter if he is but it doesn’t give off great vibes.
Well, we've had about five pages since he was called a "fat gummy cunt" even though it seems to be only two or three of you that are against it. I just don't have an issue, it's not even certain that he's coming but we're getting all the jobs for the boys, DOF doesn't have list of his own comments. Seems reasonable to me that the manager would want people he knows and trusts to do that job given the situation we are in and no one's told me yet how they know Charlie Adam isn't the guy to do that?
Still, I'm conscious that we're all digging out our inner 777 and going over the same thing on repeat.

Good luck to him designing some routines that can’t be defended simply by pushing our player in full flight.

I don't really remember any "jobs for the boys" shouts when Baines was promoted, though.
I mean, if we were to bring in Adam and if he were to be rubbish, then we could say it was a bad appointment.
But surely most managers will choose to work with people they know and trust - especially in the kind of mid-season scenario Moyes finds himself in. In fact, it'd likely be a disaster if they did otherwise.

Baines has paid his dues for the U18s tbf and there are other first team assistants. Charlie Adam is being given a specialised role he seemingly has little experience beyond being able to whip in a decent corner. Baines seems just as qualified if that's the job spec.

If only it were possible to give Moyses recruits a few games before condemning their appointment

It doesn’t feel like a good hiring process but I also can’t be bothered worrying about it.

He’s also a fun relic of the Liverpool dumb analytics era where they bought players based on chances created and ended up with Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, and Jordan Henderson.
Sadly, still a better hit rate there than any metric we’ve used since Moyes.
