Now would we be able to get that level out of him again? It's an unknown, but that level, if we could, is infinitely better than anything McNeil is likely to produce for us.

It wouldn't definitely move the needle, although it has the potential to, and also gives us some much needed pace in the team, which in itself makes us better.

It's probably a gamble, but if it's a £5m - £7m gamble then it's one I'd be willing to take personally.
5/7m gamble it isn't though. He's on 110k a week at Palace and he won't be taking a pay cut. He'll come straight in as one of our top end earners, and be expecting to play (and he would under this joke of a manager). It's a massive investment, even if the figures don't see it, which is why I suspect Palace want to offload asap

No you’re right, I only looked at last season. The 24/25 was very good 11 goals 3 assists. 5 goals that season in the champions league, not plus 5 goals and 10 assists in his first Spurs season.

But it points to something not quite right with the huge drop off.

Are we in a position to see how it goes and have the patience to hope we can recapture his best?

Swap deals rarely happen so it might not come off either.

I think Johnson is worth 7m and mcneil. I think hes significantly better all be it coming off a couple of poor seasons (as is mcneil) but more importantly his pace and directness is much more what our team needs

So 17m and mcneil over 4 years? Is that a significant investment? We paid 2 thirds of that for half a season of grealish (yes i know hes much better but that was just dead money)

Yes, when he's not very good and will take valuable playing time off those that have the opportunity to be so much better than him

Its professional sport. The likes of dibling doesnt get playing time because he's been largely shite. If he can't do enough to get past someone who you say isnt very good maybe hes not got the opportunity to be so much better

The pace would be welcome but his “directness” often just means losing the ball quickly, we already barely have any possession as it is

Lost his way a bit Johnson didn’t he get like 15 goals two years ago very pacy would be an improvement on McNeil

His short stints at Spurs and Palace are a big red flag for me, and I think we'll likely land up trying to offload him in 12 months when we've realised that he's nothing more than a pace merchant.

And if he's on £110k pw it's going to make him difficult to move without making a huge loss on him.

Just feels like a really bad deal, just to get rid of McNeil.

The debate "is he better than McNeil" isn't one.

He is.

Just strange as others have mentioned the drop-off from when he left Forest has been worrying.

23/24 - 5 goals, 10 assists in 32 league games
24/25 - 11 goals, 3 assists in 33 league games

He wasn’t actually that bad at Spurs before being squeezed out.

Has been very underwhelming at Palace though. Bit of a strange move really - joining a club when the manager was obviously moving on.

Different profile to anyone we have at the club and would be tempted.

Was disappointed we didn’t get him when he left Forest. I would take him, quick RW who can finish, yes please. He can compete with Dibbling there and N’diaye can compete with George on the left. Now go and get a RB
