They buy whatever is available to them and discard it when they decide it’s no longer useful. Players, managers, whatever. Same pattern.

Frivolous, wasteful behavior that’s having a noxious effect on football at large. I know we’re looking at Delap like we dodged a bullet but really, his career is taking a hit because he shouldn’t have gone to Chelsea. Think he’d be doing much better here or even at Newcastle where he’d be the main man more often than not and would be supported through the ups and downs.

Really hard to put this all on players to know better when they’re being offered life-changing money. Not everyone who goes there is going to be as resolute as KDH and come out the other side just fine, especially young players who are just getting their careers off the ground.

It’s not fair to have clubs that have bottomless sacks of money for throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks. Fuck Chelsea.

I think players have to be cleverer. It's all very well having a 30m release fee but what that does is make you a risk fee punt for teams you probably arent good enough for. Only person who didn't see it coming with delap is delap

Liam Rosenior 1/2 on? Really?

Like he's a smart guy and Strasbourg have done well under him but still... That's a big step up.

This is exactly how they work though.

Who’s doing well right now that we can afford? That’s basically it.

Minimal thought given to fit, size of the step up, etc. because if it doesn’t work, they have an endless pit of money they can dip into to try again.

Tired of the moral hazard created by having a handful of financially overpowered clubs. There should be legitimate consequences to being careless all the time.

Edit: Reckless is the wrong word. They know damn well they can afford to buy first and ask questions later. It is strategically careless though.

Could be right, but I feel like he was thrown under the bus a bit with their player recruitment and general strategy. It often seems the Chelsea manager is there to help increase the value of players to the detriment of forming a cohesive team because all these players need minutes to try and increase their value.

I could be wrong with that, but just felt that way. Will see what the next guy does.

Gotta judge this on performance.

And financially, from a cottage beginning to trading with the big boys, now with a strong balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statement, they're performaning well.

this is the reason tommy tuchel left chelsea
the owner insists on buying as many players as poss for money value regardless of what the manager says he needs to improve the squad
imagine the chelsea manager going uo to the chelsea owner and advising him financially on business affairs and when to invest etc - yet the chelsea owner thinks he can basically run a premier league team himself and add to the squad with his choices not the managers - Boehly you are an embarrassment to english football go away

Amorim having a strop because Ratcliffe won’t give him hundreds of millions to buy players for his 3-4-3

Seems to have come via The Athletic and other media are now running with the story.

Wouldn't surprise me after yesterday's comments.

Confirmed by Utd.

Man Utd's statement in full

Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.

Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.

The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.

Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday
