Re: Club World Cup.
I see Flamengo have one player called Everton and another called Evertton, for that reason alone I want them to win the tournament

But where does that money then go. It would just disappear into the owners pockets. Wouldn't be anything for the players actually playing and winning the money.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 5:50 am Should be so easy to say that any money from this tournament isn’t included in PSR calculations, but the PL haven’t got the balls to do it

Re: Club World Cup.
In fairness, they played ok against Porto in the group stages and won that game, I thought they might be a bit better here but PSG are making them look their age really. You just can't carry players who can't cover a lot of ground like Suarez and Messi now against PSG, as we saw in the CL final too.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 4:58 pm Inter Miami full of ancient ex-Barca players are actually a bit shit? Probably won't be the last time PSG make another team look very bad.
It feels like a game where a bunch of 20 year olds are playing an over 40s team...which kinda is what it is.

Re: Club World Cup.
There were some decent games in the group stage, and some fun with teams who would usually not meet playing each other and seeing how that worked out. The last round or two of games have been pretty poor/unbalanced though with the European teams starting to turn up/get used to the conditions. The weather delays and the attendances have often been really detrimental though to the watchability of a lot of the games though. Hopefully they learn some lessons for the World Cup.
I'm just watching largely for background noise though when I'm working. I doubt I'd have had it on otherwise. Holding out some hope as the teams reduce there will be a few good games with the better teams that are left but none of it matters and it's a shame it's going to be another thing that hugely skews the finances of a select few teams. If for instance Man City win this tournament, they'll earn about 50% more than if they won the PL. How can other teams ever compete with that? Not that FIFA care, in fact it's probably what they want, as the more you funnel money to a small handful of teams the more you make other teams in that country irrelevant. So what else is left but for those elite clubs from each country to play each other?
It really sucks, but it seems this is where the governing bodies are railroading things.

Re: Club World Cup.
It's dumb as fuck. The random invites. The imbalance of quality, the fact that it's post season, the fact that psg are having to defend their champions of Europe title about 2 weeks after winning it
It's a preseason nonsense which will never mean anything to fans

Re: Club World Cup.
Man City losing 3-4 to Al Hilal is kinda funny.
I know it'll seem like Man City didn't care...but they were definitely trying to win this game.
Not every problem solved there yet despite all the spending.
This result is a bit of a dream for the Saudis and justifies a lot of the spending on this tournament as it further helps to sell the legitimacy/status of their league.

Super rich state sponsored club has surprise win against super rich state sponsored club to progress in super rich state sponsored competition.
Modern football and level playing fields have never been so distanced from each other. It is impossible to give the smallest flying fuck about this farce.

Re: Club World Cup.
One of the worst crimes of this ridiculous competition, and one that is truly unforgivable was that it made me agree with Klopp on something.
Although I love how the Beeb (intentionally or not spun it):
Although I love how the Beeb (intentionally or not spun it):
Those closing words are top banter.Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola understood Klopp's position, but felt competing in the Club World Cup was the price of success.
"Would I love to have two months to prepare for next season? Yes. Would I love to be refreshed for next season? Yes. But it is what it is," he said, before City were knocked out by Al Hilal on Tuesday.

The most uninteresting top level football tournament there's ever been.Mouse wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 6:20 pm Super rich state sponsored club has surprise win against super rich state sponsored club to progress in super rich state sponsored competition.

Re: Club World Cup.
Not sure it's really that. It's the same nonsense pre season stuff they've been doing for years only with lots more money. No real prestige
