Club World Cup.

Post

Starts this Sunday.

Think it’s on channel five over here so available to watch easily.

I’ll watch. It’s footy init and it’s the novelty of seeing teams I never get to see play.

It’s a farce like. Anyone else bothering with it?

My kid will probably have it on but I'm not sure I'll watch much... Feels a bit like when footy is on at the Olympics where it doesn't really matter and so there's no excitement around it.

I've no real interest. World club competitions don't really work anyway because all the best sides (by a massive distance) are European. On top of that do the clubs even really care.

How have they even picked the sides involved. Obviously it's been done well in advance but there's no English champions, no Italian champions, no Spanish champions
It loses even more legitimacy when the criteria doesn't appear to be the best sides now

Invitational event

Let’s then pick who they think will make the most money

E.g shoe horn Messi in there, help Ronaldo sign for one of the clubs on a short term contract

Did they not invite barcelona or Liverpool. It's an odd mix of European teams

It's not gonna work unless you have to qualify and if you have to qualify they'll have to move it because teams will only qualify a week or 2 before it starts under the current schedule

Even beyond that when it's on after/before a club season it has the feel of pre season/not mattering

Ultimately it's all silly because there's no room for it in the calendar and no real desire to see if the best Australian team and the best Egyptian team can compete with the best European teams

Ultimately it's dumb as shit for a variety of reasons. It's on a par with the big pre season friendly competitions we've seen for the last few years but pretending to be something else

This, everything about it is manufactured to generate cash for FIFA and power for that twat Infantino. He’s scared of the Champions League and club power. And they have the cheek to argue it’s important to keep politics out of sport, while he bends over the desk in the Oval Office.

They’ll campaign to scrap the league cup again and let them enter the FA cup at the fifth round because they play too many matches

I've said I won't watch it, but I'm lying to myself. It's football and it's summer and I'll watch. As much as I like the tennis, the golf and many other sports, if any football is on, I'll watch it over any other sport regardless of level. I'm hooked on football.

(I won't be paying for it though, I'll be streaming any games not on Channel 5).
