While we are trying to plug multiple gaps in the team with 50m, Brighton just signed a teenage defender from Spurs for 46M

Paddy Boyland on the latest Blue Room pod said that while Strasbourg want around £40m for Doue, he believes we want to spend max £20m - £25m on a RB as we have so many gaps to fill. He’s about as informed as any Everton journo out there.
I’d rather we went for as sure a thing as possible and pay the extra then go cheap all across the board.
What’s the success rate of £20m players in this league? Must be under 50%. I’d rather be short in other areas and pay a premium for what is an essential upgrade to this team.

Im struggling to find the logic in this. Surely a 12m AWB is more of a sure thing than a 40m Doue who has no experience in the league? Im not suggesting id rather have AWB, but the higher transfer fee = better outcome is flawed, imo.

I suppose it depends on outgoings as well. Maybe Doue (or Spence) become more viable if we can sell Tim for £20m who you'd have to say is expendable given our midfield options

Just watched a couple of Papa Gueye vids - he looks like he’s at least 1.5-2x Mason Holgate tall compared to the players around him.

Yet to be convinced that this recruitment team isn’t a bunch of jokers.
Constantly wasting time going in for players who are either well out of our price range, or have no interest in coming here.

It’s Glaswegian.
Some Scottish people speak it.

Could be worse, could be Newcastle who have the funding but players have no interest in going there. At least we know most of ours is bs, they actually have some hope that is then crushed.

On the same pod, he also said we're not in a position to lash large amounts of money around yet because of financial rules.

Seems to be well regarded over in Italy. Couple of seasons over there will smarten up any young kids defending you would think.

Not convinced by that argument, Serie A is a retirement home for 30+ year old strikers.
Players like Dzecko, Quagliarella and Immobile topped the scoring charts fairly recently.
