While I understand that any striker with the position we are in is a spin the wheel and see what you get striker. We need an improvement but we also need depth and he's earning his chances to stay here while we look to move forward.
Yeah as a backup it would be ok, he's come on leaps and bounds with his all round play which makes him more useful if not scoring. Definitely need someone less random up there though starting next year if we want to achieve what Moyes is saying in press conferences of looking higher up the table.

I know you haven’t ever criticised Pickford, my point is the goalkeeper also played a part in Beto not scoring, it wasn’t an open goal.
Chance 1 - Awful.
Chance 2 - His second touch is completely wrong which means his angles for scoring are massively reduced. Yes it's a very good save, probably Beto was a bit unlucky, but he reduced his % chance of scoring by such a bad second touch.
Chance 3 - Did everything right, unlucky and a really good save.
So yeah bit if both, keeper does well, Beto should have done better on 2 of the 3.

Do we need this debate though?
Nobody would have had him scoring five goals since he came in for Dom.
His all round play is looking a lot better as well.
He missed chances like every striker does.
If we get the beto from the last six games next season he’s more than good enough to be the main man.
I suspect his level is somewhere inbetween awful under dyche and scoring every single time he had a shot under moyes.
Certainly don’t think he should be written off as a back up just yet.

As a backup I think there's not much debate, but also he's a frustrating player and therefore will cause frustration.
As with any player who misses 3 one on ones he'll get criticised for it as he should, especially when he's also responsible for the goal we conceded too.
Shouldn't just get swept under the carpet because he's done well recently, and equally I've been full of praise for his recent performances and goals which deserved commenting on.

Despite me saying otherwise previously, his hold up play is actually slightly improving.
Missed some sitters yesterday, I think he’s been found out on his preferred finish and you need to do more than try to open up your body and go far corner every time.
Genuinely terrifying pace for the third chance though, didn’t know he had that in his locker

I am so glad the blues were singing his name throughout the game.

Yeah as critical as I am of him missing the chances he did do absolutely brilliantly on that 3rd one to create the opportunity. He was clearly knackered but found something to get there before the defender when probably second favourite for it.

I remember not too long ago when there was talk of him leaving I posted I would be happy to drive him there….
My only issue with the current Beto is he needs to “calm his enthusiasm” to make something happen when the ball comes into his feet with back to goal…..his first touch is always a yard out of his feet as he attempts to turn or get away from his marker…..once he learns sometimes it is better to hold it in…lay it off…turn and spin into space….he’ll be a player..
Having said that is it just his way and that makes him the player he he is….they were shit scared of him last night they dropped back to manage him and thus created more space to allow us to play our way into game.
I would love a mbwouma or wissa..Cuna...de lap….etc but for now I’ll take Beto as he is…

Missed THREE one on one chances, DCL would be getting absolutely rinsed on here if it'd been him.
Scored goals recently but tonight showed regardless of his recent form he's still not a player we can rely on long term.
I've about turned once again on him, maybe not for the last time.
Been holding this one in havent we.

Simple for me, he played really well, was just missing a goal, but we already know he's usually a good finisher.
Long live Beto!

No, I've been full of praise for him lately, I'd rather be succeed than fail. I just also don't think other players would get the same slack for missing 3 huge and I mean HUGE chances, and that's without considering he was at fault for their's too.
Worked hard, led the line well, missed gilt edged chances. It's the exact thing everyone's slammed DCL for, but it's ok with Beto seemingly.
Anyway I was hyper frustrated yesterday, I can't watch the highlights because I'll become extremely frustrated again... He's a loveable guy, he's scored some really really important goals for us lately, shouldn't be let off the hook for missing 3 one on ones, no player should. If others disagree that's fine, I'm not going to comment on yesterday again and hope in 10 days time if he gets a big chance he slots.

Only comment on the “missed” chances like I’ve said when defending DCL…give the keeper credit too….it’s what he also gets paid for…

He was eventually going to miss a few chances, I just hope it doesn't knock is confidence too much.
Him going on to have another couple of chances while still doing all the other hard work we ask from him is a good sign even if he didn't take them. On another day the keeper doesn't get everything right and he scores one.

You can guarantee Moyes will have him training one on one with our goal keepers before the next game.
