Sad news, watched him as a kid. Brian Labone (5) and John Hurst (10) were a great centre half pairing.

As a kid I always wondered why he wore the number 10 as a centre half. Loved him and that whole late 60's-early 70's team. Heady days. RIP.

I was going to post the same comment about his shirt number. Apparently it was Harry Catterick who converted him into a centre half so don’t know if that explains the shirt number.
I was 11 at the time and the line up I remember most from those days & they year they won the title was:
West, Wright, Brown, Kendall, Labone, Harvey, Husband, Ball, Royle, Hurst, Morrissey. Sad that so many of them are no longer with us, and proof I’m getting old!

4 6 8, who do we appreciate, the holy trinity, of course
Add to that XI: Whittle; Kenyon; Jackson; K Newton

Think Terry Darracott was around that time as well?

He was, in the central league with: David Johnson; Mick Lyons; Gary Jones; Steve Seargeant; Billy Kenny; Archie Styles; Terry Owen; none of them played in the first team during that 1969-70 season, although Frank Darcy (and maybe, Gerry Humphreys), did make a few substitute appearances

Yep, that’s pretty much the team as I remember it. Great team.

Incredible, when you think, we sold both Alex Young and Ray Wilson within 12 months during 1968/1969 without buying to replace them
Don Revie's Leeds United were the force of the day, yet, combining the 1968-69(they won the league) and 1969-70 seasons, Leeds amassed 67(a record) and 57 points; we managed 57 and 66 points - we had some side! And in 1967-68, Leeds gained 53 pts to our 52, a close match!
