There's no contrary evidence... I've had the Beto argument numerous times so I remember what was said and what I argued against. You don't, but think you can say I'm talking bull shit because for whatever reason you decided you wanted to.

But then I argued with someone probably @TheRam that he wouldn't get double figures when he scored a few in quick succession and guess what I was right about that too. I'm sure you'll call bull shit on that too even though it actually happened.

The thing is Lizz, if people want to discuss Thelwell and say he's done a good job then that's fine, but also I'm going to bring up Beto because it's an important factor and shouldn't imo just be randomly forgotten about as it doesn't fit the argument of him having spent well.

Fun fact about Neal Maupay.

Iliman Ndiayes season at Everton (7 goals 0 assists) ranked against Neal Maupays prem seasons, would rank as Maupays second worst ever season. Trailing only behind his 2022/23 Season 1 goal (Everton).

Er.., usually, yeah. Think this was positioned around why we bought him as well though. So sort of but not quite.

I don't understand why we're comparing Maupay and Ndiaye. And I particularly don't understand why we're comparing Maupay at other clubs with Ndiaye at Everton.

I think a few/some/most of us probably saw the logic in signing him, albeit when you bring in a new CF you'd hope for a little more inspiring than Neal fucking Maupay. But he was a massive pile of wank while he was here - sure, the team was poor but he missed way more than his fair share of chances. It wouldn't really matter if he was Messi reincarnate at other clubs, he was awful for us.

Ndiaye's stats aren't exactly mind-blowing but he's a different kind of player, exciting to watch, engages the fans and has played about 2/3 of his matches at Everton playing Dyche anti-football. He's made much more of an impact for us than Maupay ever did and he's managed it without being a complete arsehole to boot.

For what it’s worth re Beto. I think the majority (on here) were excited based on his numbers in Italy and a cool highlight reel. A few on here watch Italian footy and optimistic his strengths would be useful in the PL. Then I think we saw him play about 100mins and altered our expectations. And I think he’s probably performed to these expectations and almost everyone is fine with that.

I don’t think there’s many points to be scored on if he’s a good or bad signing because the majority quickly altered their expectations after watching him.

It’s worth noting these are just my observations from this forum. If you gather opinions from twitter etc that’s a problem in itself and I’m glad that’s a you problem and not a me problem.

Did sign Beto and Maupay for £40m though, so I'm reticent to give him too much praise.

The Maupay signing made some sense, he’d scored between 8-10 goals a season for Brighton in the past 3 seasons. It seemed an ok option particularly for a second choice striker at that time.

It’s a shame he could only manage one goal in a team that was 30 minutes away from relegation that season. Plus it didn’t help that his behaviour has made him look like a prick.

Beto made sense too, maybe more of a gamble because he hadn’t played in the premier league before but again we were working with terrible financial constraints which limited our options on what potentially decent strikers we could go for.

Shame Dyche didn’t really know how to get the best out of him (or any attacking players this season). Beto still has been useful in a few games and played his part to ensure we were comfortably safe from relegation by March. He’s not been a great signing but not a catastrophic one either.

I’d be ok with us keeping him for another season if Moyes believes he can come up with a plan to get the best out of him.

We also got Chermiti for £15m, I know he’s more an investment for the future and he’s had injury problems. But he’s been here nearly two seasons and I’m not sure he is progressing as much as I hoped he would.

In all honesty I couldn't remember if it was you or not, just my point was that I remember what has been said about Beto because it's usually been wrong and I've argued against it at the time.
