Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
I think the risk for Palace is the loss of authority and players not having the same intensity knowing that the manager is jumping ship in a few months time.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
He told the club in October he wouldn't renew his contract, so they've known for ages. As has everyone, worst kept secret in football, all they've done is confirm what everyone knew anyway.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
They've arguably been pretty crap since then as well. Just think it's hard to get a small squad playing and fighting for a manager who they know won't be there next season and most importantly doesn't want to be there anymore.
I think he's right to leave like, they've not backed him despite being in Europe and it's taken its toll.

Think the loss of Eze has more to do with their results compared to last year than anything else.Shogun wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 10:45 am They've arguably been pretty crap since then as well. Dude is daring them to fire him. Disgruntled managers seem to be forcing the issue of late.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
"And what are we doing? We are selling our captain one day before a game. One day before a game, the first time I heard about it was 10.30 am yesterday.
"In the last 18 months, when I arrived, I watched the team. The best four players before we arrived were Olise, Eze and the two centre-backs. Andersen, the most experienced one, and Marc Guehi. They have gone now.
"It's tough for every club in the world. For every club. Then think, OK, we saw it last year, and they got it done, played the best season, and they won the FA Cup. It's all good. We can continue doing it like this.
"You will get the bill. You will get the bill. Not Oliver Glasner will get the bill, Crystal Palace will get it. If you are fine with it, continue."
Parish is surely a bit crazy if he wants growth and to attract good and better players and managers. Think Glasner has a point with how a decent club has been pulled apart.

It's the way the game is now though. The better you do the more players you lose. And the chances are that to convince the better players to join you there are clauses in their contract that allow them to leave for terms that don't allow a like for like replacement.Cods wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 6:26 am "And what are we doing? There is so much to be said for a more level playing field in this sport.Goaljira wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 7:58 am It's the way the game is now though. The better you do the more players you lose. Where sporting reasons dictate success, like a meritocracy, y'know.
It's eating itself from the inside out.
Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
The other side of the argument here is that they had £35m offer in the summer window that they turned down at Glasner's request.
Then in October, less than 2 months later, he tells them he's not re-signing.
Why try to keep him happy? Why turn down an offer for a player you are going to lose for free in a few months to appease a manager who is leaving regardless?
Palace needs the money to re-invest, why not give the incoming manager a bigger war chest and a bigger chance of success? They aren't going anywhere this season as it is.

Re: Manager Merry-Go-Round
Losing your captain with no time left to replace him due to the snide timing of the shites offer could have lost them more than £15m though and would have seen the season start under a massive cloud with pressure on the owners, a pissed off manager and a team missing its leader.Cantoffee wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 12:20 am The other side of the argument here is that they had £35m offer in the summer window that they turned down at Glasner's request.

Taking £20m now when they're safe, the manager has confirmed he's off and they've got time to plan a full rebuild for the summer makes sense.
