Guimarães is a better player, but he's also nearly 29, plus he doesn't have the English tax.
Id be starting at 80m and negotiating from there. They paid 50m for Onana and he was nowhere near as important as Garner is, or established

Guimaraes is nearly 28 with 2 years left on his contract, so he's cheaper. Garner being English, 25 and 4 years left on his contract should be more expensive even though he isn't as good.

I probably don’t rate Garner as highly as some and I know his tackling numbers were amazing last season but 80 million would be unbelievable to get for him.

That’s all completely logical but I know who I would prefer to have in my team.

Yeah, in this market, he's English, good age, he covers 2 other positions pretty well at PL level, he's technically an England player with his call up...absolutely shouldn't sell for less than 75-80 mil.

I did want to see him alongside Hackney though so would be kind of a shame right now on some level as I think they might work well together. Ideally, I'd have had him around for another year or so before thinking of selling. Like most clubs though, we're almost forced to keep selling some of our better assets to keep the PSR overlords at a distance though.

Also, we'd have to have someone lined up or have a lot of faith than Armstrong was ready to step up.

If Anderson went for 130m, then that's the market.

Let's not help out a team we want to be competing with, by selling for under 80.

He's ours for his peak years, if they want him they pay according to the current market, not what we would have been happy with last window.

The constant turnover of players, and accepting less than their worth is what's killing us in this sport of financial shuffling.

They buy to win, we survive by taking punts.

We've always sold high, even when we were absolutely brassic (apart from Rooney). So price doesn't worry me at all. We either keep a good player, or we bring A LOT of money in. Either's fine.

Buy low, sell high. Let him be someone else’s crab. This type of player is en vogue atm so we should get in on some of this action.

Although we’ve got several players we could make a healthy profit on if we sell I still have little faith we’d do anything productive with the money.

Can someone explain to me why there is a “tax” on English players?

Andy Burnham has put a tax of 20% on any English players being sold with funds to be redirected back into trying to find Everton a RB.

You have to have certain number of English players in your squad these days.

And we have plenty. We could probably field an all English side if we had to.
