Dyche - HE'S GONE
Re: Dyche
We would be 14th right now without the points deduction...Shogun wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 5:51 pm 13th/14th would have been adequate for me. Haven't seen much to give me confidence for next season though as we've only got worse under him as the season has gone on. There'll be no Burnley and Sheffield United stinking up the bottom of the league next season.
I think on the season as a whole we've been fine. I think Dyche is a competent manager, which is more than we can say for most of the managers we've had the last 10 years.
We are on a very bad run, about to hit a run of games where we should pick up points. He needs to turn things around and win a couple games.
Truthfully I don't think he's going anywhere before the end of next season. We don't have money to spend or pay him off, so we're not in a position to bring in someone guaranteed - it'll be a gamble and I don't think we want to so that right now.

Re: Dyche
I wouldn’t be so confident about picking up points against anyone at the moment those lower level teams will love the ball coming long all the time
Re: Dyche
I don't think anyone wants him gone now and I'd be utterly shocked if we're 14th by the end of the season. It's all well and good saying we have winnable games but we've just taken one point from Palace and West Ham at home whilst our Goodison form is a disgrace this season.Cantoffee wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 7:09 pm We would be 14th right now without the points deduction...

I think Dyche is creating an extremely limited side and looking more like a modern day Allardyce every week that passes by. He's done okay this season but I'm not seeing much difference between ourselves and the Burnley side he was sacked from before he was about to take them down. Next season it going to be so much tougher to stay up than any points deductions have been this season.
Re: Dyche
Next season hangs entirely on what level of financial support he gets in the transfer market. If we are forced to sell, say Branthwaite, Onana, Pickford simply to avoid going into receivership and not replacing then of course we are fucked, this a likely scenario in the event that 777 take over. If we just retain existing squad less Ali and Gomes without investing in midfield we are fucked, which manager keeps us up under either of those scenarios is a mystery to me. Sack Dyche if you will but find me the manager that keeps us up under those circumstances given the teams that are coming up.
Re: Dyche
All a big non-talking point, isn't it? He's going to stay. He might get sacked if we're like 10 points off safety at any point but that'll probably be the only situation in which it happens. I just want a manager that isn't going to play Keane, Godfrey or Young in 2024.

Yeah don't disagree with that last bit at all tbfShogun wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 8:28 pm All a big non-talking point, isn't it? He's going to stay. Re: Dyche
Me too but several managers consistently have for the first two at least so fuck knows what else we can do.Shogun wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 8:28 pm All a big non-talking point, isn't it? Re: Dyche
Well obviously (I would have thought) that it depends upon how far you go back for your selective 'headline', and who you'd played against in that period. Of course no game is a throwaway. Had we played 2 top half teams and 9 bottom half you'd expect better results.
The game immediately before these `11 games without a win' was the first time we'd won 4 in a row in over 20 years! It puts a different slant on it doesn't it?
11 games without a win is a headline, 8 wins from 23 provides more context.
Add back points deduction and just some of the dozen or so goals that xG suggests even an average team would have scored, and we'd be comfortably top half, and perhaps thinking differently about our manager, no?
Re: Dyche
You could also say the same about Dele, or Gomes? The Doc wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 7:04 pm One giant black mark against Dyche's tenure is not getting DCL firing. Things could be totally different for us even if he was a 1 in 3 striker this season. Yeah he's missed a lot of chances, but the direction, the training, the rotation etc... buck stops with Dyche. I do think we're crossing from too deep, and that's a tactical issue.
Although slight catch 22 in that he's the only recent manager that's got Dom fit and playing regularly.
Dom might be in a downward spiral (injuries, health or other), where the other two had arguably hit rock bottom. Are they also on Dyche?
1 in 3 is definitely what we've been missing. And I'm not even sure Dom could be that in our current situatuon. The only sustained successful period Dom had is when he sat in or attacked the box and had supremely competent players (Digne, Sigurdsson, James, Richarlison etc) providing well crafted deliveries for him to tap or head in. He's has gradually declined as we've shuffled those players out the door. We don't have the option of playing that way as we don't have ball players. The squad needs improving, and for now that doesn't look likely.
Re: Dyche
His 8th season as our leading striker.
Only two of those where he’s netted double figures.
His best season came under Carlo anchelotti with no fans in the ground.
Im not sure we’ll ever see him scoring goals at a decent rate again.
Best for both parties to move on in the summer.

His npxg p90 for those two years is 0.52 and 0.51. This season he is on course to hit 2k mins again, and his npxg is 0.53.
Should have been his year. Calvert-Lewin szn was back on the menu but he's hit the stumbling blocks hard and it doesn't feel like he's going to get out of it.
Happy for him to move on, but I accept the drop off is going to be dramatic, and that his next side are quite possibly going to bag themselves a striker who can hit 0.5 xg in the toughest league in the world as long as he gets his minutes and keeps himself fit.
Re: Dyche
Problem is last window he could have gone for 10s of millions as he'd bounced back from injury and was looking good, whereas now he's the 'not scored in half a season' guy.TheRam wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 10:09 pm His 8th season as our leading striker.

Can't catch a break can we.
And then who would we actually replace him with? The illusory, generic young and hungry striker that doesn't cost a packet?
