I'm not keen. I thought he was decent at Leeds and certainly not brilliant. I thought Pep must have signed him for a bet and couldn't see how in hell he was going to play much football there. I thought a loan to West Ham would be a clue as to whether he was still decent and nothing about that has made me more enthusiastic.

With limited funds, unless he was willing to come in on a voluntary basis, this has a bigger downside than an upside for me.

I think too much is being made of his West Ham loan tbh... He sat on the bench at City for 18 months barely playing, then turned up at West Ham out for shape (ok partly his fault but also it's a reflection of being unwanted at City imo)... Wasn't even coming in as first choice and just didn't seem to have the form, fitness or desire.

Imagine Dyche on the blower telling him he'll be fitter than he's been since the Bielsa days and a first choice here, that'd solve almost all the issues he had at West Ham.

The only stumbling block for me would be the terms of the deal, because I think the player would be a success here.

Fully understand we aren't set up to just be like Brighton. That doesn't mean we should be taking players on 100k a week wages who've failed at the top level. He's exactly what we repeatedly did wrong. Paying elite wages for players who've proven not to be elite.

We can't be getting involved in deals like this, where we are paying good money for a loan fee and wages and gambling that he's going to become decent again after as Brownie says he stunk the place out at west ham.
Who knows? he might go somewhere else and it turns out to be a great loan.
But we have a very limited budget and we can't go taking a chance on this guy

Getting him early is a big factor, a full pre season with us and Dyche would likely make a huge difference going into the season and how much we potentially get out of him.
