The most expensive player Brighton have bought since 2020 is Caicedo, for less than we bought Beto.

We aren't capable, but not for that reason.

I don't think people understood my point... Brighton make great decisions but also take gambles too, and they're a fairly decent proposition for a player looking to move to the premier league.

We will be fighting for our lives again, can't gamble too much, and are very unappealing to most players with a few premier league clubs chasing them.

Our entire transfer strategy has to be different to Brighton's because of the predicament we're in. I'd love to follow their recruitment process, but we are so far away from being stable enough to do that.

Until then we need to take someone like Philips on loan if we can get him as he presents a solid, premier league ready and proven talent at this level player.

Providing of course the fees involved are low and workable.

My concerns are Phillips is 28, would require an astronomical wage contribution and a decent loan fee, and he's very recently proven not to be Moyes-fit let alone Dyche-fit.

In short, he fits the profile of who we were signing 5-6 years ago, which is what I hope we're moving away from.

Also I feel that it gets a bit lost that Brighton do spend money and don't just shop around in the Guatamala second division.

They've signed a few players over £20m and number between £15-20m. They just spend their money really, really, wisely and keep the train moving by selling for peak.

I think basically what I was trying to convey was that us and Brighton are in very different positions and have different requirements at this moment in time. Phillips for them would probably be a weird signing, but for us it'd make a whole lot of sense.

I'm obviously ignoring the fact we finished with the same number of points as them last season though, which maybe invalidates my argument.
