Pundits still talk about how Virgil Van Dijk was killed at Goodison Park by Jordon Pickford - so this, you could argue is still relevant.

he has also played left back at arsenal and would provide a more attacking option thqn trippier
and
we cant ignore his experience he has at international level
and
he has been found out at his current position under southgate -we are too predictable with saka on the right

not working so far is it

like i said in the previous posts this to unlock defences and to to ALLOW palmer to start on the right in every game - giving us more opportunities in the game for kane
AND
just for the record Lee Dixon the ex england arsenal right back suggested this on commentary during the last live england match - makes sense to me

Saka has played Lb or lwb a few yrs ago for eng , not sure it worked but can't be any worse than playing Trippier plus gets Palmer in.

I think Saka has been one of our better players so far, in his proper position.

There's no reason he can't play as a LWB in a 3-5-2. We almost won Euro 96 playing that formation with Anderton and McManaman as the wide players.

This would allow Stones to move in to midfield when we have possession, and Walker is already playing as an RCB anyway when we have the ball.

The thing is though Southgate won't do anything bold, we have the best defensive record in the tournament and have the lowest XGA by some distance.

We might see Shaw at some point (probably after 70 mins tomorrow), and we might see Palmer or Gordon start, but it'll be much the same as the group stages... A mix of our defensive solidity and teams opening up to try and win the game due to it being knockout now will convince Southgate we'll grind it out enough to get through to the final.

Happens every tournament this.

Players out of position to fit in the one everyone is clamouring for.

Cole Palmer is a good player but it’s madness to suggest he has to play. To the extent where Saka is played out of position as well.

Naaaaa i wouldnt put Saka out of position.

He has been good so far, and is electric for Arsenal...IN HIS CORRECT POSITION.

Fuck moving him to LB.

I actually think its completely insane that people are suggesting it. Im baffled that professionals on TV are suggesting it.

When was the last time he played there?

This isnt a warm up match, it isnt a warm up pre season competition.

This is ALL on Southgate.

He had players in the squad that are left footed, that have played on the left etc and he let them go home.

Madness.

If Palmer started the tournament and Foden came on against Slovenia then it would have been the same situation of people clamouring for Foden to come in. Palmer isn't a better player than Foden, Bellingham or Saka.

If there's a forward the England side is screaming out for then it's Gordon on the left. Palmer over Saka on the right doesn't change much.

palmer over saka changes the whole match
hes scored 24 goals in the prem this season -
nothing phases the lad - starts over saka every time for me
and
yeah gordon on the left agreed and palmer on the right - there we have come across our trophy winning combo

We have a very good squad of attacking talent... Absolutely no problem starting Palmer of Saka and bringing the latter on against tired legs.

You'll find whoever is sub will look good when they come on because a) they ARE a very good player, and b) the game is more open with tired legs defending and more space to work in.

We won't fix the problems of this team by starting Palmer over Saka, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do so, or that we should either.

The problem England has isn't Saka, or even the right hand side, it's madness to suggest Saka for Palmer changes things.

It's the left and the middle where our problems are. Drop Bellingham back, play Gordon on the left and it's a different team.

Also, England have a good defensive record because they've played shit teams with virtually no emphasis on attack.

The right side is a huge problem tbh, but not because of Saka, because Walker plays on the right of a defensive 3 when we're in possession to create a diamond with Rice... So Saka is outnumbered by their defenders due to no overlapping RB.

Changing Saka for Palmer doesn't resolve the issue as you're still left with 2 v 1 with whoever is in that position.

We've seen Walker get forward once or twice (goal against Serbia) but it's rare because he's not playing as an attacking right back and more a wide CB when we have the ball.

It's not the biggest problem though.
