It's like going to the vets. They know you'll pay... because what's your choice? It's a corporate style of blackmail
Your choice is not to buy a membership if you think it’s too expensive, how is that blackmail ?

Because if you don't buy it, you won't be getting a ticket.

It’s just simple market forces, supply and demand, is right that those who support the club in a small way by being a member have an advantage over those who don’t. If you want to play with the big boys and spend hundreds of millions on top players and wages you have to raise revenue.

I've followed this club through thick and thin for 5.5 decades... every year it seems to move further away. If I want to see us play, I have to buy the membership... whether it defines blackmail or not, it feels like it

Well you asked how it is blackmail and I told you.

I gave up my season ticket 10 years ago as I live in the north east and it was at least a 3 hour drive each way to watch Everton. I had my season ticket for 20 years .I've had my last game at Goodison and at 66 I don't want another season ticket but find the best way for me to go to Bramley Moore with my wife will be a hotel break for around £350. Its a lot but it will guarantee at least I get to go to the new ground for one visit.

The sport, football, has been moving further away from the traditional working class supporter, certainly massively over the past 55 years, not just Everton, every single multi million pound Premiership Club in England and in most recent times fighting by every revenue increasing initiative to avoid FFP sanctions.
No, it’s not blackmail, it’s market forces, so are you saying there should be no membership scheme to give advantage to members to buy tickets before non members ?

No. I think we should still pay at the turnstiles, but you're right. The game's been bought by the tv stations, hence kick off times for the global market. I've paid the ransom of market forces, so I've got more chance than no chance. Within 5 years many will be priced out if it continues. Fan pressure will die because there are millions of football fans all over the world who'll watch on subscription and don't need to attend the actual game... the OG live football

Believe me, I remember paying five shillings at the turnstile but we had a capacity of 60,000 so supply more than met demand, of course I would go back to those days in a heartbeat but different times.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but while I hate having to pay more for the extra tiered membership, I think the club are finally modernising their revenue streams and commercial viability in a positive way (for the club). It's going to price many fans out, and probably I will get swept up in the next few years, but maybe finally the club can start balancing its books, and we might start seeing a better business model that helps the club go forwards on the pitch.
The PL changed football 30 years ago, but I feel our club has always been decades behind the front runners in raising income in every way.
And yeah, I agree, its shit, but it is the way the game has gone, and it went that way a long time ago. We just never kept up.

My reasoning for disagreeing that it's "market forces" and just normal is down to how much it actually makes.
10k people buy £100 membership? A million pound is chump change in today's game and doesn't move the needle enough to piss off some fans.
Especially when £50 may double the uptake anyway.

A million pound for something that has no cost is a million pound profit, every little helps. What does doubling the uptake to achieve the same revenue achieve other than making membership less worthwhile as your chances of getting a ticket is halved ?

Might as well just make it £1000 membership.

£60 really isn’t that much at all.
Would like to see something done about tickets for away games as that seems to be a closed shop with fan groups hoarding tickets.

Your main argument seems to be that cold hard cash and market forces are the only thing that matters, not fans feelings.
So who gives a fuck if fans cant get a ticket as long as they increase our revenue?
Or is that you can afford this membership so are quite content that loads are priced out as it increases your own chances?
